In 2010, PPND will be focusing 75% of its investments within the following four Target Areas: East End (Bloomfield, East Liberty, Friendship, Garfield, and Lawrenceville); Greater Uptown (Uptown and portions of Oakland and Hill District); Allegheny City (Allegheny West, Central Northside, East Allegheny/Historic Deutschtown); and South Hilltop neighborhoods.
The goal of this investment category is to provide substantial financial resources for a small number (4–5) of organizations to develop concentrated areas of expertise and deep staffing resources. These organizations will serve multiple neighborhoods in need of experienced staff for planning and implementing their revitalization strategies. These experts will provide technical expertise to more areas of the city that need it.
This document is to aid those organizations who are considering an application to this category. This document will describe what PPND will be looking for and how we will evaluate applications. Potential applicants can use this information as a general framework during discussions regarding potential partners, strategic restructuring, service delivery, etc. As described during PPND’s Strategic Restructuring 101 course, PPND will provide technical assistance resources to help organizations undertake the strategic planning and restructuring necessary to become competitive. Those with technical assistance needs should contact a PPND program officer. Additionally, for current grantees, research and development and other groundwork is eligible in your existing PPND work plans.
In 2010, PPND will be focusing 75% of its investments within the four Target Areas described above. The remaining 25% of our investments will be spent outside of these areas. All organizations engaged in neighborhood improvement outside the corridors described above may apply for funding by following the guidelines contained within this document. Decisions regarding applications received will be made by PPND’s Investment Committee based on the criteria at the end of this document. Grant requests will be competitive and award amounts made will be moderate.
